Creating an Additional Translation for a Transcript

For a transcript that already has a translation, you can do the following:

  • Create an additional translation.

  • Re-create the translation.

c If a re-translate job for a transcript with existing translation is triggered, all edits made to the translation will be overwritten.

c Triggering translation creation from a subclip will translate the whole master clip. If the master clip already has a translation, a re-translate action for the master clip is triggered.

The workflow for both use cases is quite the same, as described in the following procedure. Note that the Create New Translation button is only enabled for users of a group that has the entitlement Avid AI Translate RW Access assigned.

To create an additional translation:

  1. Open an asset in the Transcript tab.

  2. Select the transcript from the Transcript selection control.

  3. Click the Translation button to switch to Translation view.

If there is at least one translation available for the transcript, the tab shows the first translation for the transcript.

  4. Click the Create New Transcript or Translation button in the Transcript tab toolbar and then select Create New Translation.

If the button is not shown, click the More Options button and select Create New Transcript or Translation > Create New Translation from the menu.

The Translate dialog box opens. For a subclip, the dialog box shows the warning that the whole master clip will be translated, not only the subclip.

  5. (optional) Select the transcript for which a translation is to be generated from the Transcript list.

The Transcript list shows the available transcripts of the asset.

  6. Select the language of the translation from the Target Language list.

  7. Click the Translate button.

The dialog box is closed and the translation creation job is triggered.

If a selected transcript has already a completed translation or a translation currently being created, a Re-translate dialog box opens; for a transcript with failed translation, the dialog box is not shown, re-translation is started directly. The Re-translate dialog box shows one of the following messages:

    • "The translation you selected for this transcription is already completed, would you like to re-translate?"

    • "The translation you selected for this transcription is in progress, would you like to re-translate?"

    Do one of the following:

    • Click Cancel to keep the already existing translation/to continue with the already running translation creation.

    • Click Re-translate to discard the already existing translation/to stop the currently running translation creation, and initiate the re-creation of the translation.

  8. Select the translation currently being created from the translation selection.

The view does not automatically switch to another translation.

Example: The translation French was shown in the Translations view when you triggered translation creation for the language German; the Translations view will not automatically switch to German but keeps on showing French. You need to select German from the translation selection.

  9. (optional) Open the Process app and monitor the translation creation job. See Monitoring Transcribe and Translate Jobs in the Process App.

  10. Wait until the translation is shown.

    • Once the translate job has completed, the Translate view display auto-refreshes and all translated segments are automatically shown.

    • If the translate job fails before completion, the Translation in progress message will be replaced by the Translation failed message.
